I thought that since this was my first full year in a pseudo 1:1 environment it would be a good idea to ask my students what they enjoyed about learning with technology on a daily basis. I also threw myself out there and asked what I needed to do to be a better teacher with technology, including getting marks back sooner! It was a powerful reflective tool, and I can now look at assignments and evaluate why I am doing them, and how I can make them better.
It's often tough for us to put ourselves out on the line, but hopefully the students will welcome the chance to share with us. Give it a try with your students, you'll be surprised at their honesty.

It is great to see that some of your students were apprehensive about using technology but discovered it made learning way more interesting.

I like that you had the students comment in the blog. Did you think about using a survey in Survey Monkey?
I did a paper survey with my students, similar to the one you had your students post about.
Next year I will either use the laptops and have the students do a blog post or use a Survey in Survey Monkey.
Thanks for modelling to the rest of our staff how a LA class can function in a 1:1 environment. Hopefully, they draw on your expertice and do not try to re-invent the wheel.
I have really enjoyed coming into your LA class from time to time to see how the class functioned. I learned a lot just by watching.

You could do a poll as Terry suggest but why not a glog? The students could sum up what they learned , what they liked and didn't like in a creative way. It would certainly be a way to get students to discuss their year by showing off their glogs AND it could be used as an introduction to your next years class.
ReplyDeleteSurveys are great but when they are done at the end of a course or a seminar. People get em done to get em done.
